When I was growing up my parents made me play the piano for a penny a minute. At the time, I thought it was hard to do, but I did this until the time I was about 14.I was good enough to play for my local church and also play the piano for some musical numbers.
When I went into high school, my parents made me take choir and made me try out for swing choir.
This was great training as I learned to read parts and perform before people. I wouldn't have done either if my parents hadn't forced me to do it.
I am also trying to get my kids to learn to play the piano. What a struggle. I finally decided that they can't play video games unless they have practiced.
There are all kinds of ways to get your kids involved in music.
