One of the things that Scouting taught me as a little kid was to give service. In fact, the last three ranks towards Eagle Scout require you to give quite a bit of service.As a Star and Life Scout you can be a follower, but as an Eagle, you become the leader, run the service project, and get other people involved.
The other day I got a flat tire on the road. We walked about a half a mile to ask a farmer for a lug wrench since we didn't have one. He dropped what he was doing to help us.
I offered to send him a gift certificate multiple times, but he wouldn't give us his address. He said that he had been helped plenty of times, and this was his way of giving back. He was paying it forward so to speak, and I need to do the same for someone else in a similar situation.
